FAT, THICK, CURVY, BUXOM, HEAVY, BIG?!

We Want to Jiggle With YOU!

Join New York’s Jiggly Boo Dance Crew at 6PM on June 17th for an evening of dance and movement as liberation and community-building. No formal dance experience necessary!

After working as a movement collective for the past year, Jiggly Boo Dance Crew is ready to spread the love and spread it on thick. Through this workshop for fat/big/heavy/curvy/thick identified women and trans/gender-non-conforming folks ages 13 and up, we seek to use movement, sound, written/visual mediums, and discussion to explore what it means to live, move, and dance in a fat-phobic world and develop personal resilience as well as collective resistance. Through these mediums we will address internal and external policing, health, erotics and sexuality, interpersonal, media, and policy-based violence, and the politics of space, race, pleasure, fear, dance/movement, and of course the power of our jiggle. Come ready to challenge your body, mind, and heart in a safe brave space!

What to Bring: comfortable clothes for moving and any special snacks, beverages, or equipment that helps you move safely and comfortably.

Admission: $5-10 sliding scale or a beverage donation. This is a not-for-profit event— all proceeds go to offset the cost of workshop materials.

Childcare provided by Regeneración Childcare Collective (www.childcarenyc.org). Please contact us and let us know if you need childcare.

*On the usage of “fat”: Jiggly Boo Dance Crew intentionally reclaims and uses the word “fat” as opposed to other euphemisms (i.e. "plus-sized" or "big-boned") to explore the politics of size-deviant bodies. Our reclamatory gesture also pays homage to area studies, such as queer studies, that have viewed the reappropriation of words as part of a larger political process of creating visibility and challenging hegemonic discourses and systems of oppression.
